I was speechless and motionless in my seat for the whole afternoon. The memory of that Britta was stuck on my head. And the lipstick she gave me.Still,I don't know what's with that thing. It was pretty confusing. So when I got home,I locked myself inside my room and decided to find out the mystery within it.As I sat on my bed,I twisted the cover slowly.One.Two.Three.Open. And geez! It wasn't a lipstick at all! It looks like one on the outside but not on the inside.Wanna know what I saw? It was a sugar-like white powder that made me freak out.Luckily,Mom didn't hear me from downstairs. And from that moment,it was obvious.I know what is it.What Lizzie had said was true.Britta was a lover of you know what. And probably, you know what's inside that lipstick container. And since i never wanted to get into trouble regarding with that stupid thing,I threw it away from my window and it landed nowhere,I dunno.I don't care if someone sees it.The important thing is,its not mine. And its not on my hands anymore and that would be safe. There's nothing to worry about now.Phew!
"Wouldn't you like to try a ham sandwich,or egg salad or peanut butter?"Mom looked at me quizically while scanning the ref at the kitchen. She was looking for something so I'll be able to have snack before leaving for her job.
"tomato."I said, not even looking up from the book I'm reading at the table.
"Aren't you tired of it?"
"no."
"How about cream cheese and olive? Or else.. blueberry muffins?"
I shook my head.
"Pastrami?Roast beef?Cucumber?"
"tomato"
Mom looked at me helplessly as I glanced at her to see how she looked like."Always tomato.Cancer won't be able to attack you.You whole body is made up of lycopene."
"Maybe Mom.."
"For 16 years, you have been eating that tomato sandwich. How come you didn't get allergic to it?"
"Its because I'm used to it."
Mom shook her head as she placed the mayonnaise and loaves of bread in front of me using a tray."I don't know Hayley.I'm afraid one day,you would turn into a tomato.A giant one."
"Mom!" I exclaimed. "I like this. And you won't be able to change that."
"Okay, its up to you.You want Juice?"
I stood up from the chair and grabbed the glass of orange juice that she offered me.After that,Mom prepared herself to leave. She gave me some few reminders on what to do when she doesn't come home until morning. And I've heared it so many times, almost everyday. When she was gone,I finished my food, locked the doors and went to my room. There are homeworks and projects to be done.Tomorrow is friday and I'm excited. One more day and it will be the weekends! I'll be able to stay away from school where my fate is truly i dont know..its like--hell! I went to bed early.Tomorrow is going to be another adventure for me.And whatever awaits for me..Fight Hayley.. just fight. :)
*********
It was not a usual day for St.Luke's High School.Everyone was quiet today. Our classes were too serious and boring.People were not talking that much.Me too.I don't feel like alive today.Everybody was acting weak and tired.Maybe because its saturday tomorrow,no class. My friends, who used to be noisy were not even making a single noise today.Oh my,it feels so awkward.I don't like it.
"One carton of milk please. And a piece of doughnut."Addie said to Mr.Waldenstein, the man at the canteen.
"Not eating too much today?"Mr.Waldenstein asked her.She just made a slight headshake as a response to the question.
"We are too lazy.."I added.
He smiled."Its not just you Ms.Williams.Everyone acts like that too."
I nodded my head.
When we had our food already, the three of us went to our usual table during break time.We ate slowly. And too boring.Addie and Lizzie were not energetic today. What should I do to make them talk? Anyways,a group of students passed us by.They were so many and it seems like they were very hungru for food becuse they were in a hurry. As they passed behind my back,I felt something in my head.It feels cool. There is something liquid in my hair. When the group was gone,Liz and Addie went wide-eyed.
"Hayley.touch your hair."
I did.And Darn it!! There's something sticky poured on my hair! It was a white sticky liquid--GLUE.I almost cried when I found out.Several students looked at me and laughed upon seeing the glue on my hair.I don't know who did this but I'm 100% sure that Josh Farro took the opportunity when the group of students passed behind me.My friends accompanied me to the bathroom to fix my hair.If it doesn't work,I WILL BECOME BALD.
